Spaghetti Beef Stew

Spaghetti is a popular Nigerian dish that can be prepared any way you wish, depending on what you crave for the moment. Spaghetti, which is also known as pasta is a European food which has been adopted by Nigerians and placed strategically on most restaurant and home menus. Nigerians have gotten so creative with ways of preparing spaghetti that you shouldn’t be surprised if you see spaghetti with the popular ofeakwu (Banga stew). How many styles of cooking spaghetti have you tried already? Spaghetti Bolognese style of preparing spaghetti? Carrot sauce style of making spaghetti? Jollof Spaghetti? What’s your favorite spaghetti dish so far?

Anyway, today, let’s look at a different style of making spaghetti which you might have come across several, “Spaghetti and Beef Stew.” As usual, let’s start with the ingredients for preparing spaghetti.

Ingredients for preparing spaghetti and beef stew

  • 2 packets of spaghetti (number of packs might vary)
  • Groundnut oil
  • Diced Carrots (optional)
  • Fresh tomato puree
  • Tinned tomatoes/Sachet tomato paste
  • Ground Fresh pepper
  • Chopped Onions
  • Cooked Beef
  • Beef sauce
  • Salt and seasoning                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Preparation of spaghetti and beef stew
  • Break the spaghetti sticks into a pot of boiling salted water and allow it to boil.
  • Add 2-3 drops of groundnut oil to ensure that your pasta doesn’t stick together to form an annoying lump.
  • After some minutes, sieve out water from boiled spaghetti and set aside.
  • Pour a sizeable amount of groundnut oil in another pot which is heated up and allow it to get hot.
  • Then pour in your chopped onions and alongside it; your fresh tomato puree, paste and ground pepper.
  • Stir and allow to fry for 10 minutes to ensure that the fresh tomato puree and paste tastes is no longer
  • Stir the mixture at intervals so that it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pot.
  • Add salt and seasoning to taste.
  • Pour in your beef sauce and the cooked beef alongside diced carrots (optional) and allow to boil for 8-10 minutes.
  • You may want to add a little water after adding the beef sauce if the stew is too thick.
  • Leave the stew to simmer for some minutes, and you’re done.
